Week 11 Questions (Davis)

What does “desire” mean to Stuart Hall? He uses the term pretty frequently in this conversation, but I’m not entirely sure if he means a more traditionally psychoanalytic perspective (Lacan and/or Fanon) or if he has explored this idea on his own terms elsewhere. In fact, I am broadly surprised by the prominence of psychoanalysis in this conversation. Undoubtedly, I understand Hall and hooks to be informed by this tradition, but I would not have anticipated it appearing as such a frequent referent here. Perhaps we could discuss the role of psychoanalysis in this work and Hall’s legacy in general.
