The dynamic and diverse quality of identity is one of the central points in Hall's work. Within this framework, hybridization and diaspora are key concepts for understanding how identities shift and transform. In A Sociography of Diaspora, Mercer highlights a movement away from the ideas of transculturation and assimilation toward those of diaspora and new ethnicities. This shift suggests a departure from an older paradigm and invites to rethink concepts such as assimilation. Several countries identified as multicultural, could this be understood as a reversal of the concept of assimilation. Not in terms of how diasporic communities assimilate into host societies, but in how nation-states incorporate diversity into their own national discourse?
